H.M. Bateman was the first truly modern British Cartoonist of the C20th. His dramatic and expressive drawings sizzled with intensity, he had the ability to "draw funnily". Known for The Man Who - a series which chronicled various social faux pas - he was an acute observer of British suburban life.
