This volume contains nine invited review papers presented at the Tenth European Solid State Device Research Conference (ESSDERC) and the Fourth Symposium on Solid State Device Technology held concurrently at the University of York from 15 to 18 September 1980.
The development of semiconductor devices has always been a joint venture between technology, physics and invention, and this collaboration is reflected in these review papers. Subjects discussed include process-induced defects in silicon, VLSI design, VMOS and CMOS technologies, fabrication of sub-micron devices and some of the problems encountered in their manufacture, as well as a summary of the recent progress made in solid state displays.
